STAFF BIO SKYLAR GONZALES
With over 13 years of dedicated service in worship ministry, Skylar Gonzales is the Worship Leader at Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Portland, TX. She has attended and served at Oak Ridge since 2015 and jumped into the role of Worship Leader in March 2020. Skylar is committed to submitting to the Lord daily and partnering with the Holy Spirit to help facilitate a worship experience at ORBC that is rooted in Scripture and representative of all the generations who visit here. Above all, the worship experience at Oak Ridge seeks to bring glory, honor, and praise to God while leading his people closer to the throne of grace. Outside of her ministry duties, Skylar is a driven professional with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Studies from Dallas Baptist University and is currently pursuing her MBA. In addition to her role at ORBC and her studies at DBU, Skylar works full-time as an HR Generalist at a one of the largest independent oncology practices in South Texas.
A Rockport native, Skylar enjoys traveling (especially to Disney World), spending time with her family, friends, and two dogs, and finding new things to enjoy about living in the Coastal Bend. But most importantly, Skylar is deeply passionate about loving God and loving people, whether through her ministry, her career, or her daily interactions with others.

- Skylar’s favorite verse is Proverbs 3:5-6,

- Her favorite contemporary worship song is “Gratitude” by Brandon Lake.
- Her favorite hymn is “In the Garden” (Alan Jackson or Elvis Presley versions), which she first learned from her grandfather when she would join him on his back porch for his Saturday morning coffee.
- Her favorite movie is Beauty and the Beast.
- Her favorite book (apart from the Bible) is This Side of Paradise by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
